On October 15, the market value of chip stocks took a nosedive, plummeting by a staggering $1 trillion. This sharp decline, however, has not deterred ETF investors; instead, it has presented them with an enticing opportunity to buy in bulk at lower prices. One particular fund, which offers triple the daily returns of the semiconductor industry, is on track to witness unprecedented capital inflows this week. According to recent statistics, the VanEck Semiconductor ETF, boasting a substantial $72 billion in assets, has attracted over $430 million in capital over the past three trading days. This surge in investment positions it to achieve the largest single-week inflow since early September.

Some investors are even more daring in their approach. Take, for instance, the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X ETF, a fund leveraged three times. Despite experiencing a nearly 21% drop this week, it has still managed to draw in approximately $3.8 billion in capital. For this $19 billion fund, such an inflow would mark a historic record for the highest single-week inflow ever.

However, the overall market environment remains far from optimistic. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has taken a hit, dropping 12% over the past six trading days, resulting in a market value loss of roughly $1 trillion. This downturn can be attributed to persistent investor concerns over artificial intelligence spending and escalating global competition. Furthermore, worries about overvaluation and rising interest rates have only added to the industry's volatility.

Despite these challenges, Todd Sohn, the Chief ETF Strategist at Baird Strategas, notes that investor demand for leveraged bottom-fishing strategies remains robust. He observes that, "Even though semiconductor stocks have undergone an accelerated correction, investors are still keen on leveraging these opportunities to seek out bargains."
