On October 15, the worldwide sell-off in chip stocks persisted, as investors maintained a cautious stance regarding the longevity of the AI investment surge and the outlook for corporate earnings. This sentiment led to a weaker opening for both Japanese and South Korean stock markets. The Nikkei 225 index experienced a decline of over 3% during the trading session, with Kioxia's shares plummeting more than 8%. Meanwhile, the South Korean KOSPI index extended its losing streak to seven consecutive days, at one juncture dropping by 6% and hitting a fresh low not seen since July 31. Leading the downturn were semiconductor giants, with Samsung Electronics' stock price tumbling more than 7% and SK Hynix's shares falling over 8%. In response, the Korea Exchange implemented the sidecar mechanism, temporarily halting programmatic selling to stabilize the market.
