On October 15, U.S. President Trump made a significant announcement regarding GlobalFoundries' ambitious investment plans. The company intends to pour $21 billion into constructing two large-scale semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Malta, New York. This substantial investment is being supported by Japan, as part of a trade agreement between the two nations. The project is poised to generate a substantial number of jobs, with an estimated 27,000 positions in construction and the supply chain, along with over 1,000 high-skilled manufacturing roles.

In a further move, Trump revealed that the U.S. government will acquire a stake in GlobalFoundries. Additionally, the Department of Commerce will inject an extra $955 million into the development of silicon photonics, silicon-germanium technologies, and advanced packaging sectors. This brings the total investment in these areas to $1.63 billion, with the government's stake in GlobalFoundries valued at over $2 billion.

Shifting focus to the energy sector, Trump also announced the commencement of the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (Alaska LNG) project, a landmark energy infrastructure initiative in Alaska's history. Under the framework of trade and investment agreements, South Korea has committed to investing $50 billion in this project. Trump highlighted that the Alaska LNG project has now been designated as a U.S. federal government project, having secured all the requisite permits and authorizations, thereby enabling it to move forward without delay.
