On October 7, Elon Musk, CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX, clarified on Wednesday that the Terafab AI chip complex will be developed and managed by his affiliated companies. At most, TSMC will only be permitted to sublease certain parts of the complex. The Terafab project, a collaborative effort between Tesla and SpaceX, aims to establish a massive chip factory in Texas dedicated to AI chip production. Earlier, rumors circulated suggesting that TSMC was the prime contender to own and operate the factory. In response to these speculations, Musk firmly stated, "We will be the ones building and operating the factory; there's no ambiguity about that." He further mentioned that if TSMC shows interest, it has the option to sublease a part of Terafab, but that's the limit of their involvement. Last week, Musk disclosed that he had engaged in discussions with TSMC about potential cooperation on the Terafab project, though he didn't go into detail about the particulars.
