It is reported that to meet growing demand, VSMC, a joint venture between Taiwan's VisEra (an affiliated company of TSMC) and NXP Semiconductors, is considering building a second chip factory in Singapore. Fang Lue, chairman of VisEra and VSMC, stated that the new factory will be capable of producing more advanced chips than the first one. On Monday, VSMC held an inauguration ceremony for its first chip factory in Singapore, which began construction at the end of 2024 with an expected investment of $7.8 billion. Fang did not provide an estimate for the cost of the second factory, stating that it is too early to discuss the budget as the technology has not yet been determined, and the total investment scale will vary significantly depending on the technology used.
