On September 17, Nikkei News reported that the Japanese and U.S. governments are in talks regarding the establishment of a semiconductor factory. This initiative forms a component of a $550 billion (roughly equivalent to 85 trillion yen) investment scheme in the U.S., which was agreed upon during bilateral tariff discussions. The anticipated investment for this particular project is set to reach into the trillions of yen. Historically, investments in the U.S. have predominantly focused on the power generation industry; however, the focus is now transitioning towards high-tech manufacturing. The semiconductor factory will be managed by GlobalFoundries, a prominent U.S.-based semiconductor foundry. This revelation was made by negotiators representing both Japan and the United States.
