According to reports, Meta is set to deploy the third-generation iteration of its in-house AI chip, the MTIA 450 (codenamed Arke), in data centers during the first half of 2027. This move is aimed at curbing the costs and energy consumption associated with running AI models. The chip, which was designed in collaboration with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC, is intended to diminish Meta's reliance on external suppliers, such as Nvidia.

Currently, the MTIA 450 is undergoing rigorous testing. The initial batch of prototype chips has successfully executed Meta's proprietary models as well as third-party models, with the measured performance deviating by less than 2% to 3% from the simulation results. Meanwhile, the design phase for the next-generation product, the MTIA 500 (codenamed Astrid), is projected to wrap up within the next month, with deployment in data centers slated for the end of 2027.

Meta also has ambitious plans for its computing infrastructure. It aims to deploy a total capacity of 7 gigawatts in 2026 and double that to 14 gigawatts by 2027. The estimated investment in AI infrastructure is expected to soar to a staggering USD 1,450 billion in 2026.
