Due to TSMC's tight capacity and geopolitical factors, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 may abandon TSMC's exclusive foundry model and adopt a dual-foundry strategy instead. Currently, Qualcomm is engaged in in-depth discussions with Samsung regarding 2nm foundry services, planning to have TSMC manufacture the Extreme high-end version while adopting Samsung's 2nm process for some standard versions or specific configurations. Samsung's 2nm GAA process yield has met Qualcomm's mass production requirements, and with TSMC's advanced process capacity heavily utilized by clients like Apple, Samsung can serve as a backup for its capacity. Currently, the main disagreement between the two sides lies in pricing, with Qualcomm hoping to reduce costs while Samsung maintains a firm stance. Additionally, given TSMC's price hikes, tight capacity, and the need to diversify supply chain risks, Qualcomm has reevaluated its cooperation with Samsung, with its CEO also traveling to Korea to meet with Samsung's senior executives. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit from September 22 to 24, at which time the foundry details may become clear. Currently, neither side has issued an official statement on the progress of the negotiations.
