Based on the most recent data released by the Korea Customs Service, as of 1:00 PM on September 5, South Korea’s cumulative export volume for the current year has soared to USD 709.4 billion. This figure not only surpasses last year’s all-time high of USD 709.3 billion but also marks a significant milestone in the nation’s export performance. Despite facing a challenging external environment this year, including tensions in the Middle East, South Korea’s primary export sectors have sustained their growth momentum. This resilience is largely attributed to the thriving semiconductor industry, which has played a pivotal role in driving the country’s export success. In the first eight months of this year alone, South Korea’s semiconductor exports reached a staggering USD 281.2 billion, reflecting a remarkable year-on-year increase of 169.6%. This impressive figure accounts for a substantial 40.6% of the nation’s total exports, underscoring the semiconductor industry’s critical importance to South Korea’s economic landscape.
