Recently, Kioxia unveiled the introduction of a CXL memory expansion module, tailored explicitly for AI workloads. Leveraging XL-FLASH flash memory technology, this module dramatically cuts down the data read times of NAND flash memory to less than one-tenth of those in traditional offerings, achieving performance levels that closely approach those of DRAM. When employed to replace a segment of DRAM, this approach can double the memory capacity while enhancing performance by 30%. The module is designed to tackle the pressing issues of constrained memory capacity and escalating costs in data centers. It achieves this by intelligently stratifying data and relocating infrequently accessed data to XL-FLASH, thereby augmenting DRAM utilization and refining the overall system performance.
