As per reports, in July, SK Hynix issued American depositary receipts (ADRs) valued at US$26.5 billion. Following this move, South Korea's foreign exchange authorities stepped in to purchase approximately US$20 billion from the funds repatriated by SK Hynix. Sources close to the matter disclosed that when SK Hynix transferred U.S. dollars back to South Korea, the South Korean Foreign Exchange Stabilization Fund executed foreign exchange purchases via over-the-counter (OTC) transactions, a common practice in financial markets for large-scale transactions outside of formal exchanges.
