On August 29, reports surfaced indicating that the ongoing global artificial intelligence (AI) boom, coupled with surging demand for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), has propelled memory chip manufacturers like Micron to unprecedented revenue and profit levels. Despite this financial success, employees at Micron's Taiwan facility have expressed dissatisfaction with their current compensation packages. The two main corporate unions representing workers in Taoyuan and Taichung have formally requested that the company overhaul its opaque performance bonus system. They are advocating for the adoption of a profit-sharing mechanism, aligning Micron's practices with those of industry peers such as Samsung and SK Hynix. The latest developments reveal that an overwhelming 80% of union members have voiced their support for potential strike action as a means to safeguard their rights and interests.
