Intel Verifies Use of LGA1954 Socket for Nova Lake-S Processors

Intel has announced that it will discontinue the current LGA1851 socket and instead adopt a new LGA1954 socket for its forthcoming Core Ultra 400 series processors, codenamed Nova Lake-S. Earlier, mentions of the LGA1954 socket had surfaced on shipping documents, and images of it had also been leaked. Recently, Intel provided further confirmation through an official internal tool, which is mainly utilized for engineering testing and technical support, stating that the Nova Lake-S processors will indeed be paired with the LGA1954 socket. This indicates that when the Nova Lake-S processors are officially released, the LGA1954 platform will be introduced concurrently, along with Intel's 900 series motherboards. The LGA1954 socket boasts a package size of 45mm×37.5mm, which is the same as that of LGA1700 and LGA1851 sockets. This compatibility allows existing coolers designed for LGA1700/1851 sockets to be used with the new socket, although a motherboard upgrade will be required. Moreover, the LGA1954 socket is not exclusively for Nova Lake-S processors; it will also support subsequent desktop processors from the Razer Lake and Hammer Lake series. This suggests that the LGA1954 socket will be utilized across at least three generations of Intel's desktop processor lineup.
