Recently, a research team, headed by Professor Meng Qingbo of the Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made a significant breakthrough by successfully fabricating large-area copper zinc tin sulfur selenium (CZTSSe) thin-film photovoltaic modules. These modules boast an impressive photoelectric conversion efficiency of 13.0%, setting a new benchmark on the global stage. Comprising abundant, cost-effective, and eco-friendly elements such as copper, zinc, and tin, these CZTSSe modules represent a promising advancement in sustainable energy technology. The research team has ingeniously developed a solution coating process tailored for large-scale, continuous production. This was achieved by incorporating formamide to finely tune the coordination structure of metal ions, thereby paving the way for the industrialization of next-generation, low-cost, and environmentally friendly solar cells.
