The Trump administration is concocting a fresh round of policies regarding semiconductor tariffs, with plans to substantially broaden the tariff scope to encompass chips and associated products, including laptops, gaming consoles, and data center servers. Despite repeated cautions from tech firms that such a move might erode the U.S.'s competitive edge in the realm of artificial intelligence, the government remains steadfast in its determination to proceed. Previously, the U.S. has already slapped a 25% tariff on certain imported semiconductors and equipment, and has even contemplated imposing chip tariffs as steep as 100% on China. Should this policy be put into effect, it will further inflame tensions in the global semiconductor trade landscape.
