On August 25, union members at South Korean semiconductor manufacturer SK Hynix reportedly rejected a preliminary pay agreement on Tuesday, with over half of the participating employees voting against it. Of the 15,045 employees who cast their votes, 50.08% opposed the proposed deal. The agreement, which was finalized last week, included a 6.3% salary increase and modifications to SK Hynix’s profit-sharing bonus structure, with 40% of the bonus to be disbursed in cash and the remaining 60% in company shares. As the world’s second-largest producer of memory chips, SK Hynix is currently capitalizing on a surge in demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, fueled by artificial intelligence applications, and is posting robust financial results.
