On August 17, The Wall Street Journal reported that large US tech companies disclose hefty quarterly capital expenditures on AI infrastructure, such as data centers and chips. However, these figures do not fully reflect the scale of future spending committed by companies like Alphabet, Meta, and Oracle, as a significant portion of their future financial burdens remains off the balance sheet. According to analysis, the total committed AI-related expenditures for just Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft already amount to approximately $3 trillion, with off-balance-sheet portions far exceeding on-balance-sheet figures.
