The global NAND flash industry is experiencing a significant transformation, propelled by the rise of generative AI. As AI inference tasks increasingly supplant training workloads, enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) have come to dominate a substantial portion of the NAND flash market. In the second quarter of this year, eSSDs consumed nearly half of the global NAND flash supply, accounting for 48%—a figure that nearly doubles the 26% share observed in previous market cycles. This surge in demand from tech giants, who are seeking high-capacity, high-performance caching solutions, has driven NAND manufacturers to prioritize catering to the AI sector. Consequently, this shift has triggered a profound reallocation of production capacity within the storage market.
