Japanese and South Korean stock markets opened on a positive note today. As of 8:30 a.m. Beijing time, the Nikkei 225 index posted a modest rise of 0.16%, while South Korea’s Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) soared by more than 2.3%, marking a cumulative increase of over 50% for the year. The performance of chip-related stocks diverged between the two countries, with South Korea’s Samsung Electronics climbing over 4% and SK Hynix advancing 2%. In contrast, Japan’s Renesas Electronics saw a decline of more than 1%. Reflecting on yesterday’s trading, chip stocks in the U.S. market generally trended upward, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gaining 0.87%. Notably, SK Hynix and KLA-Tencor both surged more than 4%, ASML rose over 3%, and SanDisk and Seagate Technology also posted increases exceeding 2%.
