The NAND subsidiary of SK Hynix, Solidigm, has resumed the construction of its second factory in Dalian, China, a project that had been on hold for four years. The company intends to install equipment in November of this year and finalize the establishment of a mass production system in the first half of the upcoming year. The new production line is expected to have a monthly output capacity of roughly 50,000 wafers. When combined with the existing first factory's monthly capacity of 100,000 wafers, the overall local production capacity will see an approximate 50% increase. This expansion is spurred by the robust demand for enterprise-grade solid-state drives (SSDs) emanating from AI data centers, with NAND prices having skyrocketed nearly tenfold over the past year. SK Hynix is implementing a dual-track approach, with the Dalian plant dedicated to producing low-layer NAND based on established technologies, while its Cheongju plant in South Korea will focus on cutting-edge high-layer NAND.
