On August 10, agency surveys indicated that due to robust global semiconductor demand, South Korea's economic growth forecast for this year is set to accelerate. Economists predict that the South Korean economy will grow by 3.3% in 2026, up from the 2.8% forecast in July. Meanwhile, they have also slightly revised up their growth projections for the coming years, expecting growth of 2.3% and 2.1% in 2027 and 2028, respectively. As the AI boom drives economic growth, economists and policymakers are continuously adjusting their expectations. The growth forecast for 2026 in this survey is higher than the 3% expectation announced by the South Korean government last month. Previously, following strong GDP performance in the second quarter, the government believed that the South Korean economy was on track to grow by 3% in 2026.
