On August 6 (local time), U.S. President Trump issued an executive order, invoking Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, to impose minimum import prices and supplementary tariffs on imported polysilicon and its derivative products. This move is intended to bolster the domestic supply chains for polysilicon, semiconductors, and solar energy within the United States. The specified minimum import prices are as follows: polysilicon is set at $21 per kilogram; polysilicon ingots and wafers are priced at $100 per kilogram; solar cells are priced at $0.22 per watt; and solar modules are priced at $0.38 per watt. Furthermore, a 15% ad valorem tariff will be levied on polysilicon ingots and their associated derivative products. These measures are scheduled to come into effect at 00:01 Eastern Time on December 4, 2026.
