Chong-Ren Huang, a legendary figure in Taiwan's semiconductor industry and the founder of Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 76 due to cardiopulmonary failure. Huang, who initially held a Doctor of Medicine degree, made a remarkable transition from academia to the business world. He ventured into the semiconductor industry and established Powerchip Semiconductor in 1994. Under his leadership, the company successfully navigated through market downturns and the repercussions of the financial tsunami. He spearheaded the company's transformation from DRAM manufacturing to wafer foundry services. In 2021, PSMC completed its business restructuring and was successfully relisted. In recent years, Huang actively championed PSMC's shift towards becoming an 'AI Foundry,' which integrates memory, logic processes, and advanced packaging technologies. He deployed relevant technologies to capitalize on opportunities in AI chips and 3D integration development. Until his passing, he remained a driving force behind the company's continuous transformation and upgrading.
