The persistent shortage of memory chips has not only placed tremendous strain on smartphone manufacturers but has also sent ripples across the entire industry chain, disrupting the supply of various components. According to the latest report released by Counterpoint Research, global smartphone chip shipments during the first half of 2026 witnessed a significant decline of 15% compared to the same period the previous year. Notably, Qualcomm and MediaTek, the two industry giants, bore the brunt of this downturn, with their chip shipments projected to plummet by 25% relative to the first half of 2025.
