On July 21st, as reported by Nikkei News, Sumitomo Chemical has announced its intention to initiate mass production of a novel solid-state battery electrolyte material specifically designed for electric vehicles as soon as the fiscal year 2028. This innovative material, which leverages a halide system incorporating chlorine and other key elements as its primary constituents, is anticipated to offer a cost-effective solution without sacrificing performance. It is poised to serve as a viable alternative to the currently prevalent sulfide and oxide electrolyte materials. The development of this groundbreaking material was achieved through a collaborative effort involving Sumitomo Chemical, Kyoto University, and Tottori University.
