On July 20, British startup CuspAI announced the establishment of the "AI Material Foundry" alliance on Monday, attracting participation from over 48 tech giants, industrial enterprises, and research institutions, including renowned companies such as NVIDIA, Meta, and Hyundai Motor. The alliance aims to develop a new type of software by integrating computational and scientific research resources, helping researchers develop new materials for chip manufacturers and other industries in a more efficient and cost-effective manner. To achieve this goal, CuspAI has raised $450 million in Series B funding from investors, including the Bezos fund. Chad Edwards, co-founder and CEO of CuspAI, revealed that most of the funds will be used to support the establishment of R&D laboratories in Cambridge, Singapore, and the San Francisco Bay Area in collaboration with partners. He stated that 80% of the company's R&D investment this year will focus on material discovery, aiming to reduce or eliminate reliance on rare metals with supply chain risks (such as ruthenium and iridium) in chip manufacturing.
