South Korean chip giant Samsung is considering outsourcing some of the design orders for Google's Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) AI chips. Samsung is currently the manufacturing partner for Google's TPU chip input/output (I/O) die, with the computing module expected to be manufactured by TSMC, while Samsung is responsible for the I/O portion of the connectivity module. According to South Korean media reports, to ensure that Google's designs perfectly align with Samsung's foundry equipment and processes, Samsung is considering outsourcing the backend design work for the chip to an external company.
