Recently, a collaborative effort between Professor Jin Biaobing and Professor Wu Jingbo, both from the team headed by Academician Wu Peiheng at the Institute of Superconducting Electronics, Nanjing University, and Professor Qiu Chengwei from the National University of Singapore, has yielded a groundbreaking achievement—the successful development of a terahertz intelligent metasurface. This innovative device is adept at sensing the direction of electromagnetic waves. It leverages a hybrid metasurface structure composed of vanadium dioxide and metal, which seamlessly integrates multiple functions, including terahertz wave direction-of-arrival detection, frequency identification, and dynamic beam control. In practical terms, it can detect variations in incident electromagnetic waves and actively modulate the direction of the reflected beam in response.
