On July 12, Yonhap News Agency, citing industry insiders, reported on Sunday that Samsung Electronics has decided to expedite the commencement of production at its inaugural semiconductor facility within the Yongin chip cluster, pushing the timeline forward to 2029. This adjustment represents a one- to two-year acceleration compared to the initial schedule. Industry experts believe that this strategic move will enable Samsung to swiftly meet the escalating global demand for artificial intelligence chips. Furthermore, Samsung disclosed last month that as part of its ambitious investment initiative, it will allocate 2,030 trillion won (around US$1.35 trillion) to the development of semiconductor clusters in Pyeongtaek and Yongin. Additionally, the company plans to allocate 400 trillion won towards the construction of two new chip factories in Gwangju, located 270 kilometers south of Seoul.
