On June 30, the most recent survey conducted by TrendForce Consulting disclosed that, propelled by the ongoing surge in demand for AI servers, general-purpose servers, and edge AI peripherals, wafer foundry capacity is experiencing a notable pivot towards AI-centric products. This shift is hastening alterations in the supply-demand dynamics of mature processes. Notably, the eight-inch process is reaping the benefits of a surge in orders for AI-related power management chips. This, combined with production cutbacks by TSMC and Samsung Electronics, has resulted in a substantial enhancement in capacity utilization and a rise in foundry prices. Concurrently, for the twelve-inch mature process, TSMC's production reductions are anticipated to set off a medium- to long-term order transfer phenomenon. In tandem with the robust demand for orders of 55nm and above power management chips, Taiwanese wafer foundries are scaling back high-voltage process production, with orders being redirected to the supply chains of mainland manufacturers. Furthermore, the expansion of AI-related emerging applications, along with factors such as raw material inflation, are collectively propelling the foundry prices for twelve-inch mature processes upward, with this upward trajectory projected to endure until 2027.
