The financing frenzy in the AI inference chip industry shows no signs of cooling down, with SambaNova aggressively pursuing a fresh round of funding between US$800 million and US$1 billion. Should this endeavor prove successful, the company's valuation is projected to leap to around US$10 billion, marking a staggering fivefold increase from just four months prior. Moreover, the anticipated financing scale is poised to surpass US$1 billion, setting a new benchmark for SambaNova. The meteoric rise in SambaNova's valuation can be largely attributed to a substantial uptick in customer orders, a deepening partnership with Intel and Vista Equity Partners (notably, a hefty US$3.5 billion revenue commitment stemming from the Vista alliance), and the burgeoning demand for AI inference chips.

As both a shareholder (owning roughly 9% of the company) and a customer, Intel has joined forces with SambaNova to unveil AI inference products that seamlessly integrate Intel CPUs with SambaNova's Reconfigurable Dataflow Units (RDUs). SambaNova's edge lies in the energy efficiency of its RDUs, which empower AI models to operate at accelerated speeds while consuming a mere fraction (one-tenth) of the power required by NVIDIA GPUs. Presently, SambaNova has transitioned its market stance from being perceived as an 'alternative to NVIDIA' to positioning itself as an 'NVIDIA collaborator,' with a keen focus on the premium inference market. Nevertheless, NVIDIA's stranglehold on the AI inference chip market remains unshaken, boasting a commanding 74% market share, thereby subjecting SambaNova to intense competitive pressures. Furthermore, SambaNova's reliance on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) in its supply chain poses a potential bottleneck, as the tight supply of HBM could impede its scale-up ambitions and delay profitability.
