On June 15, reports indicated that tungsten hexafluoride, a crucial deposition material used in the manufacturing of memory chips and advanced logic chips, has recently witnessed a widening gap between supply and demand. This trend has been attributed to the withdrawal of certain overseas production capacities and the ongoing expansion of downstream memory chip production. Consequently, prices for these products have embarked on an upward trajectory. Analysts highlighted that, using tungsten hexafluoride as an example, the average monthly price for 5N-grade products is projected to reach RMB 1,760 per kilogram in June, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 236%. The primary driver behind this surge is the escalating demand for memory chips. Moreover, the head of a specialty gas production enterprise based in Shanghai revealed that there has been a recent spike in demand for helium. Despite operating the factory in two shifts, production levels are still insufficient to meet the current demand. The executive emphasized that the semiconductor industry exhibits a massive appetite for helium, with prices experiencing dramatic fluctuations.
