Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with TF International Securities, has reported that supply chain insights suggest shipments of devices powered by NVIDIA’s N1/N1X chips are projected to hit around 10 million units within the next two years. These devices are designed primarily for power users who have a high demand for robust on-device AI processing capabilities. However, the potential for increased shipments doesn’t solely rely on competitive pricing—it also hinges significantly on whether the Windows operating system can deliver applications and workflows that fully utilize the potential of on-device AI computing. At present, most AI applications in the PC market still depend on cloud-based processing. For on-device AI to spark a significant wave of device upgrades, it will require substantial support from the operating system.
