NVIDIA’s N1x SoC Lags Behind Apple’s 2023 M3 Max in Benchmark Tests

NVIDIA is set to introduce a new Arm-architecture system-on-chip (SoC) processor, internally codenamed N1x, in partnership with Microsoft and ARM at Computex, which kicks off on June 1, 2026. This chip boasts a 20-core ARM CPU architecture crafted by MediaTek, comprising 10 high-performance Cortex-X925 cores and 10 energy-efficient Cortex-A725 cores. It integrates a GPU based on the Blackwell architecture, featuring 6,144 CUDA cores, and comes equipped with an NPU unit capable of delivering 180-200 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of computing power. The memory subsystem supports up to 128GB of 256-bit LPDDR5X unified memory, offers 12 PCIe Gen5 lanes and 5 PCIe Gen4 lanes, and operates within a thermal design power range of 45 to 80 watts.

Preliminary Geekbench 6 benchmarks conducted on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS reveal that the N1x achieves a single-core score of 3,096 and a multi-core score of 18,837. These results place it in close proximity to the performance of Apple’s 14-core M3 Max processor, which was released in 2023 and scored 3,124 in single-core and 18,920 in multi-core tests. Notably, the N1x achieves this level of performance despite having six additional cores.

This chip signifies NVIDIA’s return to the consumer PC processor market after an 11-year hiatus. It aims to overcome graphics performance limitations and enhance local AI inference capabilities within the Windows on Arm ecosystem by leveraging a combination of GPU power, AI computing capabilities, and a unified memory architecture. Devices powered by this chip are anticipated to hit the market in the third quarter of 2026, with prices expected to range between $1,000 and $1,500.
