As memory prices keep surging, a fresh crisis has arisen within the PC market: a substantial quantity of counterfeit DDR5 memory modules is now circulating across various retail channels. Some of these fakes have even gone as far as using plastic to mimic DRAM chips, presenting an incredibly deceptive appearance. Take, for instance, the case of a 16GB DDR5 SO-DIMM memory module bought by a Japanese user. It was labeled as being manufactured by Samsung. However, upon disassembly, it was discovered that the module actually contained chips marked with SK Hynix identifiers. Moreover, some of the supposed DRAM chips turned out to be nothing more than plastic slabs or empty substrates. These counterfeit products display glaring flaws in their physical details. For example, the gold fingers on genuine memory modules have straight edges, whereas those on the fakes are rounded.
