Samsung Electronics' labor and management are set to resume negotiations under the mediation of the South Korean government before the launch of an all-out strike on May 21, in what is seen as the 'final negotiation phase' to avert the strike. According to news on May 11, the two sides will undergo a two-day 'post-facto mediation' through the South Korea's Central Labor Commission from May 11 to 12. Previously, Samsung Electronics' labor union passed a strike authorization vote with a 93% approval rate. If negotiations fail, an 18-day strike will commence from May 21, with core demands including the removal of the performance bonus cap, a 7% increase in basic wages, and setting aside 15% of the annual operating profit as an employee bonus pool. Samsung's management has proposed a 6.2% wage increase, stock grants, and special bonuses, but has refused to remove the bonus cap. This mediation is seen as a crucial opportunity to avert the strike and minimize potential losses.
