Owing to sluggish sales in the mid-to-low-end mobile phone sector, Qualcomm and MediaTek have substantially slashed their chip orders for TSMC's 4nm and 5nm manufacturing processes. This reduction encompasses a production scale of 15 to 20 million chips, equating to roughly 20,000 to 30,000 fewer wafer starts. Seizing this opportunity, AMD promptly acquired this surplus capacity to manufacture data center processors, PC CPUs, and AI accelerator chips, thereby solidifying its foothold in the high-end chip market.
