Richard Chang, founder of SMIC, China's largest semiconductor company, stated in a recent interview that equating success in the semiconductor industry with the necessity of manufacturing 3nm or 2nm chips is a misconception. He emphasized that in the global semiconductor market, advanced processes account for less than 20% of the demand, with over 80% coming from mature processes and specialized technology segments. Chang believes that domestic companies should focus on niche markets, address specific problems, and achieve differentiated competition rather than blindly pursuing advanced processes. He also pointed out that the hardware demand in the field of distributed artificial intelligence has not yet been met, suggesting that AI startups should pursue scenario-based application routes.
