On May 8, Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation and TSMC signed a non-binding memorandum of cooperation to establish a joint venture for the joint research, development, and manufacturing of next-generation image sensors. The joint venture, in which Sony will hold a majority stake and control, will build production and research and development lines within Sony's wafer plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, and is currently considering investment matters. The two sides also hope to explore new opportunities for physical AI applications such as automotive and robotics through this collaboration.
