TSMC Trade Secret Leak Case Draws to a Close: Main Culprit Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

On April 27, the Intellectual Property and Commercial Court in Taiwan, China, handed down the first-instance verdict in the case concerning the leakage of TSMC's 2-nanometer process technology. The primary offender, Chen Liming, a former engineer at TSMC, was found guilty of stealing core technological secrets and sentenced to a decade behind bars. His accomplices, Wu Bingjun, Yi Yiping, and Chen Weijie, were given prison terms of 3 years, 2 years, and 6 years, respectively. Lu Yiyin, a female executive at Tokyo Electron Limited, received a 10-month prison sentence along with a 3-year probationary period. Additionally, Tokyo Electron Limited was slapped with a hefty fine of NT$150 million.
