On April 2, reports surfaced indicating that the home appliance sector is feeling the ripple effects of escalating oil prices, a consequence of the Middle East conflict, coupled with the burgeoning demand for storage chips driven by the expansion of AI data centers. Beginning April 1, a number of home appliance manufacturers have initiated price adjustments on select product models, including color TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines, with price increments spanning from 2% to 10%. Larger kitchen appliances, such as range hoods and stoves, have witnessed even steeper price hikes, ranging from 10% to 20%. At present, the majority of products available at retail outlets are sourced from existing inventories, and the impact on end-consumer retail prices remains relatively muted. However, this effect is anticipated to become more pronounced over the course of this month. Both manufacturers and retailers are apprehensive that these price increases will exacerbate the challenges faced by an already lackluster market, with analysts forecasting a divergence in both market and industry trends.
