Intel is poised to inject an additional $15 million into the fledgling company SambaNova, which is chaired by Lip-Bu Tan, the incumbent CEO of Intel. This investment is contingent upon regulatory clearance; once obtained, Intel's ownership share in the company will ascend to 9%. Prior to this, Intel had already funneled $35 million into SambaNova in February of this year, elevating its stake from 6.8% the previous year to 8.2%, and both entities forged a strategic partnership in the same month. As per documents unveiled by Intel in March, financing activities for four companies linked to Lip-Bu Tan—EPIC Microsystems, 3D Glass Solutions, OPAQUE Systems, and SambaNova—were required to be disclosed as significant events. Intel emphasized its adherence to stringent governance and conflict-of-interest protocols, having already become a shareholder in three of these companies prior to Lip-Bu Tan's appointment as CEO. The company refrained from commenting on the specific financing of SambaNova, noting that it is commonplace for long-term investors within the professional sector to have overlapping interests.
