During the 13th week of 2026, the German retailer Mindfactory experienced an unprecedented slump in desktop processor sales. With the prices of core components, including CPUs, GPUs, and memory, soaring, consumers' enthusiasm for upgrading their systems waned, prompting many to adopt a cautious, wait-and-see stance. Data showed that AMD commanded the market with a dominant 89.09% share of sales, while Intel lagged far behind, accounting for a mere 10.91%. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D continued to reign as the best-selling model, whereas Intel's top-performing Core Ultra 7 265K managed to sell only 10 units. The bulk of Intel's sales were attributed to its older 12th- and 14th-generation models. The newly released Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus series processors have yet to make a substantial dent in the market dynamics. Moreover, despite the AM4 platform nearing the end of its lifecycle, older processors such as the Ryzen 7 5700X and Ryzen 5 5500 continued to enjoy popularity among cost-conscious consumers, thanks to their competitive pricing. The downturn in CPU sales is not an isolated trend; GPU sales are also on a downward trajectory, indicating an overall contraction in the DIY PC consumer market.
