On March 30th, Tesla AI made an official announcement regarding the commencement of the TERAFAB super chip factory initiative. This ambitious project is slated to command a total investment of up to US$20 billion, aiming to achieve an impressive annual production capacity of 100 to 200 billion cutting-edge AI and memory chips. The projected annual computing power is set to surpass 1 terawatt, a figure that dwarfs the current global annual total computing power of AI chips by approximately 50 times. The implementation of this grand project will unfold in multiple stages, with the inaugural phase spanning from 2026 to 2028 serving as the ground verification period. During this crucial phase, the inaugural Terafab pilot factory will be constructed, boasting a production capacity of 100 gigawatts. The primary focus will be on manufacturing Dojo3, FSD, and robot chips, with formal mass production and verification of advanced process yields earmarked for 2028.
