Musk Accelerates Progress on Tesla's Next-Gen AI Chips

Tesla is accelerating its AI chip roadmap. On March 19 (local time), Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the company's next-generation AI6 chip is expected to complete tape-out by December this year—meaning the chip design will be finalized and sent to the factory for production—earlier than external expectations. Previously, Musk revealed that Samsung Electronics would manufacture the AI6 chips, which will be used in Tesla's autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots at its new factory in Taylor, Texas. In July last year, Samsung signed a $16.5 billion chip supply agreement with Tesla. Samsung executives indicated plans to begin producing Tesla chips based on a 2-nanometer process in the second half of 2027.
