Apple has recently rolled out the latest M5 Pro and M5 Max variants of the MacBook Pro. According to tests carried out by Notebookcheck, the 40-core GPU of the M5 Max showcases performance that can hold its own against the mobile version of the RTX 5070. This marks a significant 20 - 30% enhancement compared to its forerunner. Both the M5 Pro and M5 Max make use of TSMC's cutting-edge third-generation 3nm process and boast a dual-chiplet architecture design. The M5 Pro comes in two GPU variants: one with 16 cores and the other with 20 cores. On the other hand, the M5 Max provides users with a choice between 32-core and 40-core GPUs. During tests like the 3DMark Steel Nomad, the M5 Max GPU truly shone, delivering outstanding performance. Nevertheless, the performance of the 14-inch model is somewhat held back by thermal constraints. As a result, the 16-inch version emerges as a more appealing and promising choice.
