On February 12, news emerged that Applied Materials, Inc., the largest supplier of chip manufacturing equipment in the United States, agreed to pay $252.5 million to settle an investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding export violations, bringing an end to a years-long inquiry. In a statement, the company said the agreement resolves allegations by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security that it failed to comply with export regulations for some of its products between November 2020 and July 2022. Applied Materials also stated that the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission have concluded their related investigations without taking any action.
