In an interview, Huang Chongren, Chairman of Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), expressed shock at the recent wave of shortages and price hikes in the storage market. He stated that this is the first time in his 30-year career in the memory industry that he has witnessed such a severe imbalance between supply and demand, and that it is impossible to predict when the shortage will ease. He pointed out that current wafer foundry capacity is tight, with customer demand for capacity reaching panic levels, and predicted that wafer foundry prices will continue to rise until 2026. Huang emphasized that despite a decline in demand for some electronic products, strong demand in areas such as electric vehicles, 5G, AI, and energy conservation and carbon reduction is driving semiconductor demand to take off, with wafer foundry prices set to rise to reasonable levels.
