Intel's next-gen desktop processor, Nova Lake-S, will feature a new LGA 1954 socket, replacing the existing LGA 1851 interface. The LGA 1954 socket measures 45x37.5 millimeters, maintaining the same dimensions and mounting hole spacing as LGA 1700 and LGA 1851, ensuring compatibility with existing coolers. Intel is preparing two Z-series chipsets for Nova Lake-S: Z990 and Z970. The Z970 is based on the same chipset as B860 and is positioned as a lower-cost option, offering a more affordable 'fully unlocked' platform. The LGA 1954 interface is expected to support four generations of CPUs, from Nova Lake in 2026 to Hammer Lake in 2029, allowing users to avoid motherboard replacements for four years.
