Chinese scientists have achieved a remarkable milestone in the realm of scalable quantum networks. The research team, spearheaded by Pan Jianwei from the University of Science and Technology of China, has successfully constructed, for the first time, a fundamental module for scalable quantum repeaters. This achievement paves the way for the establishment of long-distance quantum networks. Through their efforts, the team has accomplished high-fidelity entanglement between single-atom nodes across extended distances. Moreover, they have, for the inaugural time, pushed the transmission distance of device-independent quantum key distribution to surpass 100 kilometers. The pertinent findings have been featured in prestigious journals Nature and Science.
